Each time a significant prize-giving event nears, there’s always a clamor for introducing additional classifications to acknowledge unsung work and fill the passions of enthusiasts with niche passions.
Another commentator made the case for a horror game category. That would be fantastic. So would tabletop games, this being someone's personal cause. Yet I need to apologize in advance when I prioritize since similar to blinkered fanatics, there's a strong justification supporting my request is the most urgent and significant. This is the request: There should be an award type for logic-based games.
Categorizing Game Types
Classifying creative works is not a science; it’s very subjective, and inevitably generate discussions resulting in unclear classifications. There’s a reason cinema institutions steer clear of genre categories. But it is an unavoidable compromise in the world of video games, showing incredible range they hardly constitute as a single art form.
To recognize the complete range of interactive entertainment excellence to be recognized, and for games of all stripes to compete fairly, genre categories are essential.
Current Gaming Award Categories
The major gaming awards offer these classifications covering Action, Action/Adventure, Role-Playing, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Together, these classifications actually cover many game types, making space possible for most games within them.
Different situation exists for brain-teasing titles. There’s simply nowhere for their placement. Think about these recent excellent titles, all very different: structural challenges in a particular game, the pulse-pounding block-matching from another release, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles of a third title. What category would fit them between these six categories? Nowhere, that’s where.
Acknowledgment Issues
There are dozens outstanding logic titles published annually that have no home during gaming ceremonies, except when they manage to fit classification types such as Mobile Game, VR/AR Game, and the highly challenging Indie races.
- A renowned logic title wasn’t nominated completely during that awards season
- Another imaginative release received no nominations in 2019
- Popular arranging title got ignored that year
- Just some puzzle games scraped into independent or mobile categories
Significance of Puzzle Games
Commonly they're small games, yet the craft behind logic titles carries substantial weight. Famous handheld logic titles stand as most engaged experiences in the world and have been for many years.
The famous puzzle experience challenges well-known building titles for the title of highest-selling title ever; it’s also in the running as greatest title ever. Puzzle games are foundational within interactive entertainment, and they are in conversation with diverse game types.
Recommendation and Reasoning
Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter that issue. It would be easy to populate multiple candidates engaging, different, qualified experiences annually without trouble — perhaps, with difficulty, given the need to exclude so many good games out.
Restating the point, these represent titles without proper classification during prominent ceremonies. Logic title developers function at the challenging frontier interactive creation, creating some of most fundamental forms of gaming itself. Comparable to movie stunt professionals, they merit acknowledgment. Don't make them wait 35 years.
